THE MECHANICAL MAN
We opened the year in Chicago where Marco conducted a performance of his own score to the 1921 Italian silent film "The Mechanical Man". The 25 minute piece was performed by a 200+ group from six time GRAMMY Foundation® award winning WVHS, comprised of a concert band, double string orchestra and 80 voice choir. The film is an epic adventure about a colossal robot who wreaks havoc in a city while police frantically try to stop the chaos with a contructed robot nemesis. The score (and performance) was received with a standing ovation!
WARHOL: GOOD FOR THE JEWS?
Marco just returned from D.C. creating sound and music cues for Josh Korbluth's new monologue.
In 1980 Andy Warhol created a series of silk screen prints called "10 Portraits of Jews of the 20th Century" depicting cultural luminaries such as Albert Einstein, Martin Buber, Golda Meir, George Gershwin and the Marx Brothers. Last year Josh Kornbluth was commissioned to create a solo-show based on his response to the Warhol exhibit then housed at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in SF. This week he opens an expanded version of the show in Washington D.C. at the Theatre J.
ATOMIC MOM
Marco co-wrote the score with Klaudia Promessi to this feature length documentary about two women affected in very different ways by the atom bomb. One, the mother of the filmmaker, M.T. Silvia, was a Navy biologist involved with post-war development and testing of the bomb, the other woman, a Hiroshima survivor, was eight years old when the bomb was dropped.
