MarcoCo. News Blast January 2007

“You can play a shoe string if you’re sincere.”  (John Coltrane)
Strings, PVC pipes, rubber hoses, Marco’s been doing just that, along with playing the more familiar trumpet, keyboards and assorted percussive instruments.  Yes, there was a lot of noise made at MarcoCo. Studios this last year.  Here’s a glance of some of our projects that screened in the last few months.

THE RAPE OF EUROPA, a feature documentary from Actual Films based on the National Book Critics Circle Award-winning history by Lynn H. Nicholas had its premiere at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in November.  It was the closing night event of the Boston Jewish Film Festival and took home the Audience Award. The film tells the epic story of the theft, destruction, and miraculous survival of Europe's art treasures during WW2. It continues its festival run across the country with a broadcast date coming soon.  Marco d’Ambrosio wrote the score, performed by the Prague Philharmonic.  Click on the trailer link to get a sample of the music. http://www.therapeofeuropa.com/videosTheTrailer.asp

NAIL POLISH, Jane Ainbinder’s bittersweet, coming of age (Mystic Pizza meets Mrs. Robinson) comic drama saw its premiere at a sold out screening at the Mill Valley Film Festival.  It continues to run the fest circuit.  Terri supervised the 80’s pop hit soundtrack.

THE JOSH KORNBLUTH SHOW is back by popular demand.  If you’re in the Bay Area you can catch the funny man host an all new season of the interview program on Mondays at 7:30PM and Fridays at 10:30PM on KQED 9.  If you’re outside the area, you can watch archives online at http://blogs.kqed.org/joshkornbluth.  He has an extraordinary guest lineup this season including Annie Leibovitz and Amy Sedaris.  And, of course, you get to hear Marco match Josh’s quirkiness note for note as his music follows the host on field trips around the Bay.

Susan Stern’s THE SELF-MADE MAN had a repeat broadcast on PBS’s POV series last Fall after receiving two Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Writing” and “Outstanding Informational Programming – Long Form.”  Score by Marco.  Music supervision by Terri.

Finally, for all you anime fans, stay tuned for news and samples of Marco’s epic orchestral score to the upcoming feature film, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURES:PHANTOM BLOOD and the recently released FIST OF THE BLUE SKY!

Cheers to you in 2007!
